Xinjiang Power Transmission Fuels New Development in Yubei Converter Station, Chongqing.
Time:2024/11/15 Publisher:经纬正能 Share:

The Hami-Chongqing ±800kV Ultra-High Voltage Direct Current (UHVDC) Transmission Project is one of China's first large-scale transmission projects for wind and solar energy sourced from the Gobi Desert region. It serves as the third direct current (DC) channel for "Xinjiang Power Transmission" to other parts of the country. The project involves an estimated total investment of approximately 28.6 billion yuan and spans 2,290 kilometers, traversing five provinces: Xinjiang, Gansu, Shaanxi, Sichuan, and Chongqing. The project begins at the Hami Converter Station in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and terminates at the Yubei Converter Station in the Yubei District of Chongqing. On July 25, 2023, the Development and Reform Commission of Xinjiang UAR announced that the project had received official approval, with construction starting on August 8, 2023.

Xinjiang is recognized as a major clean energy base under the national strategy known as "three bases, one corridor" and serves as a crucial sending end for the "West-to-East Power Transmission" initiative. This project is expected to integrate 10.2 million kW of new energy sources, including wind, solar, and solar thermal power. The initiative aims to maximize the region's abundant wind and solar resources, facilitating large-scale development and utilization of clean energy, while promoting comprehensive resource allocation and consumption across broader areas. Moreover, it will ensure a stable, reliable, and continuous power supply for Chongqing, significantly enhancing its diverse power security framework.

Once operational in 2025, the project is expected to supply Chongqing with 40 billion kWh of electricity annually, accounting for approximately 40% of last year's local power generation, with over 50% anticipated to come from renewable energy sources.

TEEE has secured contracts for two packages at the Yubei Converter Station, which include the supply of over 200 Dry-type Air-core reactors. As the reactors have already arrived on site, our after-sales service team is present to provide guidance and support during the installation process at the converter station.
